Toronto, Canada – GAO Fiber Optics has released this handheld optical visual fault locator which is an indispensable tool for the maintenance of fiber optic networks, optical systems including LAN, FDDI and ATM, telecommunications and CATV networks. It is commonly used in quickly verifying continuity, checking the validity of patch cables before or after installation, verifying short lengths of installed fiber, locating faults in the continuity of both single mode (SM) and multimode (MM) optical fibers and testing wavelength loss. It belongs to GAO’s Visual Fault Series family of products.
This pen style handheld optical visible laser source, model 3C04, has a 650 nm visible laser source that transmits continuous light or 1 Hz adjustable strobed light into a fiber allowing the user to visually detect a fiber fault over distances of up to 5 km. It is fitted with a standard 2.5 mm universal adapter. This visible laser source is powered by two 1.5 V AA alkaline batteries. When it transmits continuous light, it provides for up to 50 hours of continuous operation. When it transmits modulated light, it operates continuously for up to 80 hours.
