Fusion splicing is preferred over mechanical splices for its inherent durability and strength. The splicer is ideal for splicing dispersion shifted, non-zero dispersion shifted, and erbium doped fibers; it is suitable for both single mode (SM) and multi-mode (MM) fiber optic applications.
This fiber optic fusion splicer, model 1202, has an optional outer heater which can heat 4 protecting sleeves simultaneously. It automatically adjusts to environmental conditions using built-in temperature, humidity and pressure sensors which provide constant feedback signals to control the fusion arc temperature. The splicer boasts a large memory and is able to store 5,000 groups of splice results. It also displays the current time and date as well as the current operating mode. This fiber optic fusion splicer has 5 pre-set settings and 5 user-definable settings for each of SM and MM. The average splicing loss is 0.01dB in multi-mode and 0.02dB in single mode. The typical splicing time is ten seconds; whereas, the typical heating time is 60s.
