Toronto, Canada GAO Fiber Optics, a leading supplier of fiber optic equipment, launched its upgraded, highly accurate optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR). using advanced technology to measure the physical characteristics of optical fiber including length, transmission loss and splice loss. The compact OTDR is designed for Fiber-to-the-x (FTTx) network testing and mainly applied in the manufacture, construction and maintenance in optical fiber communication systems. It is also used to locate the faults or breaks of optical fiber.

This handheld optical time-domain reflectometer, model 6416, offers four optional wavelengths including 1310nm, 1550nm, 1625nm and 1490nm. It has a short event dead zone of 1.6m, a high resolution of 0.25m and sampling points of 65535. The lightweight OTDR supports Bellcore GR196 file format for managing files. It provides dual USB interfaces, supporting both USB stick and direct cable download to a PC via ActiveSync. The rugged OTDR is equipped with a comfortable strap for easy carrying. It features an anti-reflective TFT LCD screen, fast auto measurements, low battery indication and a long operating time of more than 10 hours on a single charged.
